Minaret of Jam of Afghanistan
Minaret of Jam is one of the famous monuments of Afghanistan that can be found in the valley of Ghor province. Beside the Minaret, is the Hari Rud river that flows rapidly and is surrounded by barren mountains. It's very hard to reach this monument, because you can only be negotiated by a sports utility vehicle or a jeep.

.

The Minaret of Jam has been discovered in 1957 by an expedition led by Ahmad Ali Kohzad, the president of the Afghan Historical Society and Andre Maricq, a french archeologist.

.

The 65m-tall Minaret of Jam is a graceful, soaring structure, dating back to the 12th century. Covered in elaborate brickwork with a blue tile inscription at the top, it is noteworthy for the quality of its architecture and decoration, which represent the culmination of an architectural and artistic tradition in this region. The impact is heightened by its dramatic setting, a deep river valley between towering mountains in the heart of the Ghur province.

.

UNESCO listed the Minaret of Jam as a world heritage site.
