Rio de Janeiro of Brazil
Rio de Janeiro Harbour, on Guanabara Bay, has been dubbed one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. A large part of Rio is spread around the 143km circumference of this awesome bay, between mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.
The dark blue waters by the Harbour are studded with rocky outcrops, the best known of which is the Sugar Loaf Mountain, jutting out at 404 meters high. The locals are so proud of their geologically defined home that they say, “God made the world in six days and on the seventh he concentrated on Rio.”
The best way to see the entire metropolis and Rio de Janeiro Harbour is to clamber as high as possible. Head skywards to the Corcovado hunch-backed peak, which peers over everything at an impressive 710 metres high. On a clear day the view is spectacular and could be savoured for hours. Evenings offer more delights, twinkling lights and sky, depending on the vagaries of the clouds and mist.
Did you know? That the Rio de Janeiro Harbour “River of January” is considered as one of the seven wonders of the natural world. It has been known as one of the most beautiful natural harbors. The statue of Christ stands about 38 meters and is completed in 1931 and become a popular place of pilgrimage for millions of locals and tourists.
