Machu Picchu of Peru
Machu Picchu
The site was said to be rediscovered by Yale Archaeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911 and the name of the site in Quechua means “old peak”. The mountaintop complex, which consists of over 150 remarkably well-preserved houses as well as fountains, gateways, temples, shrines, castles and bulwarks, is entirely invisible from below level.
Nobody doubted that this was a sanctuary built in a superior location to seven or eight days of walk from the city of Cusco. Some of the infrastructures of Machu Picchu still remains covered in gold, presumably garden fantasy idols and offerings, such as the temple of Qorikancha in Cusco. Even before, the Machu Picchu is considered as one of the best tourist destinations of Peru and now also considered as one of the best tourist spots in the world.
The integrated agricultural terraces that surrounds the place is already enough to provide the food to feed the entire population of the city. Its surfaces and structures are all masterfully elaborate and solid, would you imagine, the 50-ton blocks that make up the city are so tightly pressed together that it is impossible to stick even a thin penknife in between them.
If you find yourself heading for Machu Picchu, make sure you try and get there early, don’t miss the opportunity to see the breathtaking experience of watching the sun rise over the Andes from a “lost temple city” on the roof of the world.
Did you know? That the site was known as Picchu, Piccho or Piche, during colonial times and consisted of two parts: Machu means “old” and Picchu means “hill” and therefore the name is merely descriptive or “old hill”. And in addition, Machu Picchu is said to have been constructed in the 15th century, before the Incas had to deal with the intrepid Spanish explorers.

When I traveled to Cuzco, I had the opportunity to do the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and I was impressed by the beauty of the area, is amazing. I also saw people who live there and I shared time with them. That way I learned most of their customs and traditions. For me, this trip would not have been possible without the help of the travel agency I hired, TurPeru who organized all my activities in Cusco and made my stay more pleasant. I recommend you, if you want more information the web is http://www.turperu.com.pe
I would really love if you can add more pictures on your posts. The picture is really nice but some more pics to go with your fantastic post would be much better.
I made a tour in Peru last year and I was delighted with its food, its people and all the tourist attraction it has. I could know so many places like Cusco and of course Machu Picchu. Also I knew Puno, Arequipa, Lima and Trujillo that have history and important archaeological sites. For me this trip it wouldn´t be the same without Libertador Hotels, one of the most important hotel chains in Peru. If you have the opportunity to travel to this amazing country you must stay in this hotel. For more information you can visit its website.
