Mount Fiji of Japan

The Great Mount Fiji of JapanMount Fuji is Japan's highest mountain and one of top icons of Japan.

Visible from Tokyo on a clear day, the mountain is located to the west of Tokyo on the main island Honshu. For merely seeing Mount Fuji, it's better to maintain some distance. The most popular place for sightseeing tours of Mount Fuji and surroundings is Hakone. Many of the best photographs are taken from Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park near or including one of the five lakes that surround Mount Fuji.

If you want to see both Mt Fuji and Hakone in one day it is easier to take one of the organized tours from Tokyo to see Mt Fuji as accessing Mt. Fuji area via public transport is more challenging and best done over The Great Mount Fiji of Japantwo days. Of course trying to see Hakone and Mt Fuji is going to be a compromise as there is not enough time in one day to see both properly.

We recommend doing this trip on a week day as the roads out of Tokyo can be packed on the weekends. Most organised tours include the nearby Hakone and some include a return trip on the Shinkansen (bullet train). Mount Fiji is considered as one of the best tourist destinations in Japan and is widely known around the world.

There is another great attractions in Japan which happens to be the Zao National Park located on YamagatMount Fiji of Japana Miyagi. A national park that is well know in Japan and many tourists visited the park because from there, you'll see the great cone of the mountain with a small lake on top of it.

Did you know? That the Mount Fiji is 3776 meters in height. An almost perfectly symmetrical volcanic cone, the mountain is a near-mythical national symbol immortalized in countless works of art, including Hokusai's 36 Views of Mount Fuji.
